繁殖可用播種、扦插或側枝壓條法，通常以播種為主。
播種以春季為適期，種子發芽適溫20-25℃，播前不需浸種或浸種 3-6 小時，播後稍覆土壤，澆水保持溼度，約經 5-7 天發芽成苗；
因屬直根性，鬚根少，不耐移植，故以直播為佳；
亦可用穴盤育苗，待苗高 5-8 公分或本葉 4-5 枚時再定植；
幼苗初呈直立生長，且速度緩慢，待本葉 8-10 枚後枝條才具纏繞性，且速度顯著加快。
若需栽培作小型棚架植物，蔓枝出現時即應設立支柱供其攀緣；
若需栽培作綠肥、飼料或地被植物，可放任匍匐生長，播種後 4-8 個月內即能形成覆蓋深度 35-45 公分的繁密族群。
栽培土質選擇性不嚴，但以疏鬆肥沃、富含腐植質之壤土或砂質壤土最佳，排水務求良好。
全日照或半日照均理想，日照充足生育開花較旺盛，栽培處每天能有 6 小時以上的直射日照更佳；
亦極耐陰，可忍受遮蔭 80% 以上的陰暗環境，惟蔭蔽狀況下開花較少，花徑較小，花色亦較淡。
耐旱性強，野生族群最長可忍受 3-4 個月的乾季，但人工栽培時土壤常保濕潤，生育開花較良好。
如同一般豆科植物，成株根部有根瘤菌共生，可幫助固定空氣中的氮素，自行合成氮肥，故花期時少量施用磷、鉀肥即可開花旺盛；
幼苗期根部的固氮共生系統尚未建立，需施予較多的氮肥促進營養生長，避免葉片黃化或生長緩慢；
若自然生長已呈繁茂，就不需再刻意施肥。
若分枝疏少或不均，可藉摘心促使多生側枝，但過早摘心不易萌發側枝，最好待枝條開始呈蔓性後再進行第一次摘心。
耐寒性差，氣溫低於20℃度時生長明顯遲緩，溫度15℃ 度以下生長逐漸停滯並轉劣，溫度-3 ℃度以下全株莖葉枯死，但翌年春暖後能從基部重新萌發。
栽培處通風務求良好，悶熱多濕時易滋生病蟲害；
生性強健粗放，喜高溫，耐熱、耐旱、耐陰、耐瘠，生育適合溫度 20-30℃度。
